Picking Up Speed!

Hey everyone! Here is another update on how things have been going. I went back to talk to the recruiter after all of my medical information arrived. It came on Tuesday instead of Wednesday, which was a real blessing! Thankfully everything I needed was in it. The recruiter took everything we had, and met with us the following day at 15:00. We sat down and discussed everything, and I signed a bunch of release information papers.

The next step for us in all of this will be a medical examination by the Air Force. They need to make sure that I am physically fit for the jobs that I will be applying for. All of the release forms were sent in, and I should hear back from the recruiter some time during the middle of next week. There were no specifics given, but I am hoping that it will be sooner than later.

I figured people might want to know some of the progress that I have been making with the physical side of things. While it may not be that impressive, I am definitely making an improvement. I am thankful to the Lord for helping me out with this challenge.

Here is the list of my running activities. Next post I will put up some of my other statistics:
  • Jan 21, 2013 - 12 Minutes : 23 Seconds
  • Jan 22, 2013 - 12 Minutes : 15 Seconds
  • Jan 24, 2013 - 11 Minutes : 46.3 Seconds
  • Jan 25, 2013 - 11 Minutes : 35.3 Seconds

So, like I said, it's nothing to freak out about, but I am really please with my progress. My goal is to get a comfortable 10 minute, steady run. I know that it will work out.

Anywho, this has been my life as of late. I have just been working hard to improve everything. Feel free to post any questions or comments

Always,

Hurry Up!... and Wait!

For those of you who haven't heard, I am planning on joining the Air Force to become an Operations Intelligence Specialist. Sarah and I have been working extremely hard to finish all of the paperwork to get the ball rolling, but overall it has been the classic game of, "HURRY UP!... and wait..."

It all started out when we were in Washington visiting Sarah's parents for Christmas. We felt really impressed that we were supposed to visit a recruiter. When we stopped by to visit, we had a rough start to the process. Recruiter #1 turned out to be a real piece of work. Instead of trying to convince us that joining the Air Force was a good thing, he actually did everything in his power to convince us otherwise. It left a little bit of a sour taste in our mouth, but we felt determined that this is what we were supposed to do.

Feeling a little bit down, we left Washington to head back down to California. Our friends, who have been crazy generous to let us stay with them through all of this, helped lift our spirits by reassuring us that Recruiter #1 just didn't want to do his job. In everything they have been such an amazing help!

In the next couple of days we would come to meet Recruiter #2. While a huge improvement from the first experience, Recruiter #2 would tell us that we couldn't join the Air Force because of Asthma. I called my mom to talk with her about it, and evidently they only told me I has Asthma because it was easier to explain. I actually had something completely different. With our new found knowledge, it would change everything.

It wasn't until meeting Recruiter #3 that we would find the success that we were looking for. We went in, and I started in on the paper work, scheduled to take the ASVAB, and looked into different career options. It was a substantially different experience, and I loved it!

The day of the ASVAB came, and I was a little nervous, but everything would work out fantastically! I came out of the test with an Air Force Score of 93, which the Recruiter told me gave me an eligibility to apply for any job that the military offered. I was relieved that I did that well, and even more relieved that I would be able to get things moving again.

The top 8 jobs that I am applying for are as follows:
  • Operations Intelligence Specialist
  • Cryptologic Linguist
  • Cyber Space Operations
  • Geospatial Intelligence
  • Electronic Signal Intelligence Exploitation
  • Sensor Operator
  • Air Borne Cryptologic Linguist
  • Network Intelligence Analysis

While I have finally gotten all of the paperwork done, I am waiting on medical information to arrive in the mail so that I can schedule my medical and physical screenings. I will update when we have more information!
